A golden, silken oil that melts into dry-feeling skin, restoring a supple touch and a soft, healthy-looking sheen.
Plant oil & emollient
What it is
Argan oil is a triglyceride oil obtained from the kernels of Argania spinosa. Its fatty-acid profile commonly includes oleic and linoleic acids, while refining, deodorizing, roasting, storage, and antioxidant content can change scent, color, texture, and stability. Cosmetic argan oil should not be assumed to be identical to roasted culinary argan oil.
Common uses and benefits
In facial oils, moisturizers, hand creams, body oils, lip care, and makeup, argan oil works primarily as an emollient: it adds slip, softens rough texture, and helps a formula reduce the sensation of dryness. A small study in postmenopausal women reported improved hydration measurements after topical argan-oil use on the forearm, but the result does not turn every argan-containing formula into an anti-aging treatment.
Who may like it
It may appeal to dry, dehydrated, mature-feeling, or weather-stressed skin and to anyone who enjoys a silky oil finish. Lighter emulsions may suit combination skin, while concentrated oil blends are often best for drier areas, hands, lips, and body.
Common formats
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil
Refined cosmetic argan oil
Virgin or cold-pressed argan oil
Argan-oil blends
Argan unsaponifiables or oil-derived materials
Pairing and use notes
Argan oil pairs naturally with squalane, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, sunflower seed oil, shea or mango butter, vitamin E, ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. Apply oil-rich products after lighter water-based hydration unless the finished formula directs otherwise.
Good to know
Botanical or seed sensitivity is possible. Unrefined and refined oils may differ in aroma, color, trace components, and skin feel, and an oil-rich facial product can feel heavy or contribute to breakouts for some people. Store oil products away from heat and strong light, and discontinue use if the odor changes markedly or irritation develops.
