Avocado Oil

Also known as Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Avocado fruit oil, Avocado butter, Avocado oil unsaponifiables

A plush, cushiony oil that melts over thirsty-feeling skin, smoothing rough texture and leaving behind a supple, softly luminous finish.

Plant oil & rich emollient

What it is

Avocado oil is a triglyceride oil usually obtained from the fleshy pulp of Persea gratissima fruit rather than from a seed. Its profile commonly includes oleic, palmitic, and linoleic fatty acids plus a smaller unsaponifiable fraction. Cultivar, ripeness, extraction, refining, deodorizing, storage, and the finished formula influence color, scent, texture, and stability. Avocado butter and avocado-oil unsaponifiables are related but not identical materials.

Common uses and benefits

In facial oils, moisturizers, cleansing balms, lip products, body creams, and makeup, avocado oil works primarily as a rich emollient. It adds glide, softens a rough surface, and helps reduce the sensation of tightness or dryness. A small clinical study of a finished cream containing both saffron extract and avocado oil reported improvements in several appearance measurements, but because the formula contained multiple actives, those results cannot be assigned to avocado oil alone.

Who may like it

It may appeal to dry, very dry, mature-feeling, or weather-stressed skin and to anyone who enjoys a richer, more enveloping oil texture. Concentrated oils and balms may suit lips and body especially well, while combination or blemish-prone facial skin may prefer a lighter emulsion.

Common formats

  • Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil
  • Refined avocado oil
  • Virgin or cold-pressed avocado oil
  • Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Butter
  • Avocado oil unsaponifiables
  • Avocado-oil blends

Pairing and use notes

Avocado oil pairs naturally with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, squalane, jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil, argan oil, shea or mango butter, and vitamin E. In a layered routine, use an oil-rich product after lighter water-based hydration unless the finished formula directs otherwise.

Good to know

Avocado sensitivity is possible, and people with severe fruit or latex-associated allergy should review the complete product carefully and seek medical guidance when needed. Refined and unrefined oils can differ in trace components, scent, and color. Rich formulas may feel heavy or contribute to congestion for some facial skin. Avocado oil is not proven sunscreen and does not replace treatment for eczema, wounds, or persistent inflammation.
