What it is
Green tea skincare ingredients come from Camellia sinensis leaves and contain varying amounts of polyphenols called catechins, including epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. “Green tea extract” is not one standardized material: extraction method, catechin content, solvent, pH, and packaging can all change its stability and activity.
Common uses and benefits
Green tea appears in serums, moisturizers, masks, eye care, cleansers, and sunscreens for antioxidant and soothing support. Small human studies of specific topical green-tea or EGCG formulas have reported changes in measures such as elasticity, dullness, and biological markers. Those results belong to the tested formula and should not be assumed for every product containing a trace of leaf extract.
Who may like it
It may suit normal, combination, oily, or sensitive-feeling skin and anyone building an antioxidant-focused routine. Dry skin may prefer it in a cream or emulsion rather than a very light gel.

Pairing and use notes
Green tea is often paired with vitamin C, vitamin E, ferulic acid, niacinamide, caffeine, and sunscreen filters. Antioxidants can complement daytime sun protection, but green tea does not replace a tested broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Good to know
Botanical extracts can still cause irritation or allergy. Green-tea catechins can oxidize, so color, odor, air exposure, pH, and packaging matter. The ingredient list usually does not reveal the EGCG level, and a green-tea product should not be assumed to contain a meaningful amount of caffeine.
