What it is
Jojoba oil is pressed from the seeds of Simmondsia chinensis. Despite its familiar name, it is technically a liquid wax made mostly of long-chain wax esters rather than the triglycerides found in most plant oils. That structure gives it a smooth glide and relatively good oxidative stability. Refining and processing can change its color, scent, and minor components.
Common uses and benefits
Jojoba is used in facial oils, serums, moisturizers, cleansers, lip care, body products, and hair care as an emollient and formula carrier. It helps soften a rough or flaky surface, adds slip, and reduces the dry feel left by cleansers or treatment products. Laboratory and ex-vivo research is interesting, but it does not prove that every jojoba product stimulates collagen or treats inflammation in living human skin.
Who may like it
It may appeal to normal, dry, dehydrated, combination, or mature-feeling skin. Some oily and blemish-prone skin enjoys its lighter waxy feel, although the concentration and complete product determine whether it feels comfortable or too rich.

Pairing and use notes
It pairs easily with squalane, rosehip oil, ceramides, vitamin E, glycerin, panthenol, retinoids, and antioxidants. Use it within a moisturizer or as an oil step after lighter water-based hydration, following the finished product’s directions.
Good to know
Jojoba is generally well tolerated, but botanical sensitivity is possible and an oil-rich formula can still feel heavy or contribute to breakouts for some people. Store oils away from excess heat and light, and stop using a product if its odor, color, or texture changes noticeably.
